Is Barr’s DOJ Targeting Sen Burr To Thwart His TrumpRussia Collusion Findings?

Senator Richard Burr(R-NC) and U.S. Attorney General William Barr (right)

On Thursday’s edition of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show (TRMS), host Maddow advanced a provocative theory as to the real reason Attorney General Barr’s Department of Justice (DOJ) may be going after senate intelligence committee chairman Richard Burr(R-NC) for possible covid-19 insider trading. According to Maddow, DOJ and by extension AG Barr’s pursuit of senator Burr may have very little to do with the serious covid-19 insider trading allegations, and more to do with the fact that senator Burr was getting ready to release the final installment of his committee’s findings on whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in the 2016 election.

Host Rachel Maddow said, “As bad as the insider trading allegations are against Senator Burr, we also simultaneously have to worry whether the U.S. justice department under Attorney General William Barr might be targeting Senator Burr for reasons that are less about insider trading and more about convenience to the Trump administration. Sen Burr you will recall, has led the only functional bipartisan congressional investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. His committee’s findings have supported the intelligence community’s conclusions that for example, Russia interfered in the 2016 election to support Donald Trump’s candidacy. That is something President Trump continues to deny as recently as an interview that aired this morning. More to the point though, Senator Burr’s committee is set to release it’s final report on the Russia issue in the coming months and that last installment we are expecting is on ‘possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russia.’ That’s what Burr is working on right now, but he’s had to step down as chair of the committee.”

As Maddow correctly points out, given AG Barr’s demonstrable pattern of acting as president Trump’s personal defense attorney, it is not entirely implausible for one to conclude that the AG’s pursuit of senator Burr is also about defending Trump from a potentially damning senate intelligence committee finding that the Trump campaign did indeed collude with Russia in 2016. Maddow also correctly points out that an investigation into a sitting U.S. senator, especially one who chairs the powerful senate intelligence committee, must have been approved at the very highest levels of DOJ meaning AG Barr’s footprints are all over this.

Bottom line folks, AG Barr has so tarnished DOJ’s reputation that even when it undertakes a valid high profile criminal prosecution like senator Burr’s, the general perception among members of the public is that it must have something to do with helping president Trump politically. The very same thing happened during Jeffrey Epstein’s high profile criminal prosecution. I will say again what I have repeatedly stated before and that is, the only way DOJ can cure its tarnished reputation is for career officials within the DOJ to pressure AG Barr to step aside. Because it is highly unlikely that Trump will ever push aside his trusted defender, the onus is on career DOJ officers to begin demanding that AG Barr step down for the good of the department. Simply put, continued silence by career DOJ officials regarding AG Barr’s conduct at this juncture is tantamount to complicity.

Deutsche Bank Employee Was Fired After Flagging Trump/Kushner-Russia Transactions

A bombshell segment on yesterday’s (2/17/20) edition of Rachel Maddow show took a deep dive into Trump’s long history of shady transactions at the troubled Deutsche Bank. Among the eye-popping revelations on Maddow show which are detailed in a new book called “Dark Towers”, was the fact that a Deutsche Bank employee, one Tammy McFadden, was fired after flagging suspicious transactions Trump and Kushner made with Russian individuals via Deutsche Bank.

Maddow asked “Dark Towers” author David Enrich, who’s also the Finance Editor at New York Times, “During the presidential election [2016], a Deutsche Bank employee raised concerns about transactions related to Jared Kushner. There seemed to be a link between Kushner’s dealings with Deutshe Bank and Trump’s dealings. They involved the same banker, they seemed to sort of be cultivating the same ties, what do you know about the seriousness of the concerns that were raised about Kushner and sending money to Russia during the campaign?”

Author David Enrich responded, “They were extremely serious. The woman who raised these concerns named Tammy McFadden, I spent a lot of time talking with her, and she was so concerned that she not only filed a suspicious activity report…but when that report was killed, she started complaining so loudly internally that she had to be transferred to another part of the bank and then ultimately was fired. She still feels very strongly about this. She had the courage to speak out publicly and talk to me, have her picture taken, which is something that in this day and age, in this political climate, just takes such guts and people who don’t feel really strongly, really alarmed about something don’t do.”

Right off the bat, it is very hard to swallow the fact that during the thick and thin of the 2016 presidential election, Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner was making wire transfers to individuals in Russia, which regulators at Deutsche Bank found highly suspicious. How thoroughly did Special Counsel Mueller dig into these transactions before arriving at the “no collusion” conclusion? Did Mueller ever interview Tammy McFadden? If not, why not?

As for the brave and heroic whistleblower Tammy McFadden, who is apparently ready to share her story with anybody who would listen, why hasn’t the mainstream media given her an exclusive interview yet. Why hasn’t she been called to testify before Congress so the public can know exactly what Trump and Kushner were doing with the Russians?

Bottom line folks, even though Mueller’s TrumpRussia probe is officially over, it is very clear that there are still many questions regarding TrumpRussia that remain unanswered. After Maddow’s bombshell show, the public must demand to hear from Tammie McFadden about her tenure at Deutsche Bank, and specifically what she detailed in her suspicious activity reports that the bank killed. It would be great if the mainstream media would grant McFadden an exclusive interview but the best option by far would be her testimony before Congress under oath.

Barr’s DOJ Refuses To Release Notes Of Kushner’s Interview With Mueller

A federal judge recently granted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by CNN and Buzzfeed and ordered the Justice Department to release documents currently in its possession related to the now concluded investigation into Russian election interference in 2016 (Mueller probe)

Among the documents media houses CNN and Buzzfeed are most interested in, are the notes from the various interviews Mueller conducted with witnesses–known in legal circles as “302 notes”. Needless to say, such notes can be very important in determining whether a particular witness lied to/misled/withheld material information from investigators.

Ever since the federal judge granted CNN and Buzzfeed’s FOIA request, Barr’s DOJ has largely complied and released several 302 notes. Conspiquously absent from the 302 notes however, are those related to Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner–a prime target of CNN and Buzzfeed’s FOIA request.

Equally troubling is the fact that Barr’s DOJ is yet to provide the legal justification for its refusal to comply with the federal judge’s order on 302 notes related to Jared Kushner. Is there something very bad in Kushner’s 302 notes that Barr’s DOJ is so intent on keeping away from the public even if that means violating a federal judge’s order?

Bottom line folks, it is now quite evident that AG Barr considers his position as one intended primarily to protect/defend President Trump and his family. Where, as here, his Justice Dept refuses to release 302 notes related to Trump’s son-in-law Kushner, and giving no legal justification for the refusal, a reasonable inference can be made that AG Barr is hiding from the public Kushner’s 302 notes because they contain information he thinks will cast Trump and his family in negative light. Congressional Democrats and the mainstream media must demand that DOJ comply with the federal judge’s order and release Kushner’s 302 notes.

Trump says Putin Told Him Ukraine Meddled In U.S. Elections

In the midst of all the controversy surrounding Republican members of congress spreading Russia’s debunked conspiracy theory that it was Ukraine who meddled in our 2016 elections, a bombshell Washington Post piece now says President Trump actually told one of his aides that it was Putin himself who told him about Ukraine meddling in our 2016 elections.

According to the Washington Post piece, White House officials have been worried about President Trump’s insistence that it was Ukraine, not Russia who meddled in our 2016 elections and have long suspected that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin may have planted the idea in Trump’s mind. This was always their suspicion but they had no tangible evidence to prove it. However, according to the WaPo piece, their suspicion became reality when Trump, questioned about why he held on to the strange belief that Ukraine meddled in our elections, explicitly told one White House official, “Putin told me.” The shocked White House official reportedly shared this conversation with his/her peers.

Needless to say, this bombshell revelation raises a whole host of national security questions given the fact that Trump has repeatedly denigrated U.S. Intel officials as being unreliable because their “intelligence” erroneously led us to war with Iraq—a plausible argument that reasonable people can reasonably disagree about. Trump has repeated this argument to suggest that likewise, we should not believe everything we hear from U.S. intelligence agencies re Russia and Ukraine.

The troubling revelation in this Washington Post piece however will blow a huge hole in Trump’s argument because it demonstrates that he took Vladimir Putin’s word over that of U.S. intelligence officials regarding Ukraine. In other words, a lot of people who were were inclined to entertain Trump’s plausible skepticism of U.S. intelligence officials, will have a totally different reaction when they find out that it was Putin himself, who fed Trump this narrative.

This bombshell Washington Post piece also raises a lot of questions about Republican members of congress who have echoed Trump’s accusation of Ukraine. Have these Republican members of congress known all along that Putin said that to Trump directly? If so, their arguments about Ukraine meddling in our elections take a whole new turn and opens them up to accusations of knowingly spreading Putin’s propaganda.

Bottom line folks, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was spot on when she recently pointed out that with Trump, “All roads lead to Putin.” This particular WaPo bombshell however raises the stakes dramatically because it leads to the inevitable question; “What else is Trump doing because Putin told him so?” If the accounts in this WaPo piece hold up, and there’s no reason to believe that they won’t, then Democrats and the mainstream media must actively pursue this question and insist that Trump release the transcripts/notes of all his meetings/phone calls with Vladimir Putin.

Speaker Pelosi Says Trump’s Impeachment Is All About Russia

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at a Dec 5 press conference

At a press conference Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi instructed the House to commence drafting formal articles of impeachment against Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States.

In a response to a reporter’s question, Speaker Pelosi gave a rarely used but quite powerful justification for Trump’s impeachment and that is, from the beginning of his Presidency, Trump has taken actions that directly benefit Putin’s Russia, adding that Ukrainegate was not an isolated incident but rather, yet another favor in a long line of favors Trump appears to be doing for Russia.

Specifically, Speaker Pelosi said, “It’s about Russia. Russia invading eastern Ukraine. Over 10,000 people died, now maybe 13,000 some of them in the absence of our conveying that military assistance that was voted in a bipartisan way by the congress of the United States. So sometimes people say, ‘well I don’t know that much about Ukraine.’ Well, our adversary in this is Russia. All roads lead to Putin. Understand that.”

Speaker Pelosi’s powerful justification for Trump’s impeachment–all about Russia– is rarely used by congressional Democrats and cable tv pundits but is certainly one that needs to be made with more frequency to the American public. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has repeatedly illustrated on her show how Trump’s presidency has essentially boiled down to a series of favors to Putin’s Russia. On her Thursday night show, Maddow again brilliantly illustrated how Trump keeps doing favors to Putin up to and including Ukrainegate—holding back much needed military aid to Ukraine, which is under attack by Russia.

Maddow went into great detail illustrating how Trump has essentially given Russia, our sworn enemy, everything they’ve asked for and then brilliantly closed the segment with this poignant message tying the current impeachment saga to the troubling Trump-Putin bromance. “We are at this moment now, this historic moment where we’ve got all these arrows all pointing in the same direction consistently and none of them ever pointing in the other direction. All these actions, all pointing in the same direction all pointing towards exonerating Russia, advancing Russian claims, spreading disinformation that is of Russian origin, that is designed to serve the Kremlin’s interests…That is where this impeachment scandal comes from. And even if he is going to get impeached for this stuff, and it looks like he is, kind of makes you wonder if he stays in office, what comes next? This is an escalating pattern…What else might they[Russia] possibly want given everything they’ve gotten thus far?

In other words, Democrats cannot afford to make Ukrainegate an isolated, out of the blue incident in which Trump somehow got caught up in. Instead, they must adopt the powerful case laid out by Speaker Pelosi and brilliantly illustrated by Maddow that Ukrainegate is just the latest example of what Trump has been doing ever since he became President and that is, consistently making decisions that go against America’s national security interest and seemingly aligned with the Kremlin. Then and only then, can Dems make a forceful case that impeachment is a necessity—that the Russian thing has gone too far if you will.

Bottom line folks, Trump’s strange daliance with Russia’s Vladimir Putin, a murderous dictator hostile to the United States and who meddled in our 2016 elections, is now way beyond the specularory phase. Any reasonable person presented with the fact pattern Rachel Maddow laid out would conclude that Trump has been doing Russia’s bidding all along up to and including Ukrainegate. Therefore tying Trump’s impeachment over Ukrainegate with his other actions vis-a-vis Russia is a brilliant move by Speaker Pelosi which will put the 53 GOP Senators in the very uncomfortable position of publicly defending Trump’s favors towards Putin.

More importantly, it will give Democrats an upper hand in the 2020 U.S. Senate contests because it will hand them the very simple but powerful campaign message, “If you are okay with Putin taking over the U.S., vote for Republican X“–the perfect Xs of course being Maine’s Susan Collins, Colorado’s Gardner and Arizona’s McSally.

Which Russian Oligarch Did Ivanka and Kushner Vacation With In Croatia?

Ivanka Trump with Wendi Deng in Croatia (August 2016)

As a result of a freedom of information act (FOIA) lawsuit, CNN and Buzzfeed recently obtained a treasure trove of documents from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s TrumpRussia investigation that officially ended in March 2019. Among the bombshell revelations in this treasure trove of documents was the fact that in August 2016 when Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner vacationed in Croatia, they had company that has never been previously disclosed—a Russian Oligarch and his girlfriend.

Prior to the FOIA document release, media reports cited Rupert Murdoch’s ex wife Wendi Deng as the only other person who vacationed with Kushner and Ivanka in Croatia. Deng and Murdoch had divorced in 2013. At the time of the vacation in Croatia, Deng was rumored to be dating none other than Russian President Vladimir Putin who had divorced in 2014. There was never any mention of the Russian Oligarch and his girlfriend.

As you might expect, a mysterious Russian Oligarch and his girlfriend vacationing with Trump’s daughter Ivanka and her husband Kushner at the height of the 2016 presidential campaign has raised a whole host of questions chief among them, who the Oligarch is and why he vacationed with them? Remember Kushner was an integral part of the Trump’s 2016 campaign and was in charge of its “data operations” specifically as it related to social media messaging.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Steve Bannon who had just been appointed Trump campaign’s “Chief Executive” the same month (August 2016) Ivanka and Kushner went on vacation, found the meeting in Croatia between Kushner and the Oligarch so suspicious, that he reportedly planned to leverage it against Kushner. What did Bannon find so nefarious about the Croatian vacation that he thought he could leverage it against Kushner?

The documents also show that Bannon inquired about the Russian Oligarch from people he knew in U.S. intel circles and was informed that the Oligarch’s girlfriend was “questionable”. Who is this girlfriend and what about her did U.S. intel officials deem “questionable”? Did Mueller find out why she was “questionable”?

Wendi Deng was also rumored at that time to be dating Russia’s President Vladimir Putin after her divorce from Fox News CEO Rupert Murdoch. August 2016 was a period when the Obama administration was very concerned about Vladimir Putin and his efforts to interfere with the U.S. election. Why was Kushner vacationing with Putin’s girlfriend Wendi and this Oligarch at a time when the U.S. government was very worried about Russian interference? Kushner was Trump campaign’s “digital/data operations” chief in charge of social media messaging—the very area of expertise the Obama administration feared Putin was exploting to interfere in our elections. Was Kushner coordinating his “data operations” with the Kremlin?

Fox News has since become so enmeshed with Trump’s political operation that people including Yours Truly have questioned whether it is even a legitimate news company. Was a deal struck between Fox News and the Trump campaign during this Croatia vacation given Wendi Deng’s prescence? Should Rupert Murdoch be questioned about this vacation?

Also did Mueller ever get to the bottom of why Ivanka and Kushner met with this Russian Oligarch and why his girlfriend was deemed “questionable”? We know Mueller’s investigators questioned Kushner in May 2018.

There is a lot of speculation out there that the Russian Oligarch in question is Dmitry Rybolovlev, who you’ll remember, bought aTrump mansion in Florida for $95 millon, more than double what Trump had originally paid for it ($41 million). These kinds of transactions–purchases of real assets by foreigners way above their prevailing market values–is cited by law enforcement officials as one of the tell tale signs of international money laundering. If Rybolovlev is indeed the Oligarch Kushner and Ivanka vacationed with in Croatia, then the number of questions that need to be answered increases exponentially.

Bottom line folks, the bombshell revelation that Ivanka and Kushner vacationed in Croatia with a mysterious Russian Oligarch at the height of the 2016 presidential election raises a whole host of questions that desperately beg for answers. The question that must be answered first is “Who is the Russian Oligarch? and secondly, “What about his girlfriend did U.S. intel deem ‘questionable'”? It is also important for the mainstream media to level with the public as to whether they deliberately left out the fact that the Russian Oligarch vacationed with Ivanka and Kushner and if so, why the decision was made.

Rep Speier: Trump Is Pimping For Himself Or Putin

In one of the most hilarious political segments Yours Truly has heard on cable TV in a long time, Rep Jackie Speier (D-CA) told MSNBC host Chris Matthews that President Trump wants the next G7 Summit held at his Doral Golf Resort because “he[Trump] is pimping either on behalf of himself or Vladimir Putin.” Apparently Yours Truly was not the only one who found the “pimping” phrase exceedingly funny because host Chris Matthews and the other guests also couldn’t contain their laughter following her statement The full Hardball with Chris Matthews segment is available here but the relevant clip is below.

Specifically, Rep Speier said, “He [Trump] says that Vladimir Putin should be brought back into the G7. And then he starts talking about Doral….Once again, he’s pimping on behalf of himself or on behalf of Vladimir Putin…”

We are accustomed to hearing Democrats and some in the mainstream media expressing their frustrations about the flagrant corruption of the Trump administration using phrases like “conflict of interest”, “emoluments clause” etc. It was therefore very funny and quite honestly very refreshing to hear Rep Speier use the colloquial “pimping” phrase to describe President Trump’s seemingly endless efforts to use the Presidency to profit himself and his family.

Maybe, just maybe, the “pimping” phrase will annoy Trump enough to make him start abiding by the Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution. I know–wishful thinking–but Rep Speier thanks for the laugh nonetheless. Made my day.

Trump Has Already Lost Tax Return Battle

In case you missed it, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow in a very encouraging segment recently revealed that despite the unprecedented stonewalling Trump has engaged in regarding the release of his tax returns, there’s strong reason to believe he has all but lost the fight. According to Maddow, a lot of the banks Trump has used for his business dealings over the years have already shared these transactions with the various congressional committees. It therefore turns out that with these treasure troves of Trump’s financial records, we may not even need his actual tax returns to get an accurate picture of his financial dealings–especially with the Russians.

It is very sad that even in this day and age Americans would have to fight this hard to get a public official to release his financial records–records he swore on the campaign trail he would release to the public.

It is also very sad that a major U.S. political party–The GOP–has aided and abetted Trump in this unprecedented stonewalling in total breach of the public’s trust. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in particular has gone as far as violating well-laid IRS statutes in an effort to aid Trumps stonewalling–a total travesty of public service and borderline criminal conduct.

Bottom line if Maddow’s reporting pans out that congressional Democrats do indeed already have much of Trump’s financial records, then this should not only be celebrated as a big win for government transparency advocates, but it should also lead to louder calls for Secretary Mnuchin and others to be held accountable. This is especially so if evidence of criminal conduct is unearthed in Trump’s financial records–a very likely outcome.

Is Tulsi Gabbard The Trump Candidate?

The question as to whether Dem Presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard is a “spoiler” has been around ever since she announced her bid for the U.S. Presidency. Some in the mainstream media have even accused her of being a Russian plant out there to forment chaos in the Democratic Presidential nomination thereby handing Trump an easy win. Tulsi’s camp has of course vociferously denied these allegations

When news came out after the first Democratic Presidential debate that Tulsi was the most Google-searched candidate, rumors flared up again with some claiming that Russian troll bots were the ones engineering those searches. Google even temporarily shut down Tulsi’s advertising campaign during these wild searches which the tech giant characterized as “suspicious”. Team Tulsi countered Google’s action with a massive $50 million dollar lawsuit accusing the tech giant of among other things, violations of her free speech rights. The lawsuit is still pending in federal court.

The “Tulsi is a Russian plant” controversy however officially blew up yesterday during the second Democratic Presidential debate in Detroit where she eviscerated one of the leading and beloved Dem Presidential candidates Kamala Harris over her record as a California prosecutor.

The issue that got most people’s attention is not the fact that Tulsi eviscerated Senator Kamala Harris, but the manner in which Fox News and it’s most valued customer President Trump, amplified the attacks. This to many “Tulsi is a Russian plant” enthusiasts was the “a-ha” moment they’d been waiting for. You don’t have to take Yours Truly’s word for it, just look at mainstream media’s S.E. Cupp‘s Tweet which says it all. So Team Tulsi before you start gunning for Yours Truly, a near certainty at this juncture, maybe you should go after mainstream media’s S.E. Cupp first.

Bottom line in every election cycle there are always accusations of “spoiler” candidates–you’ll remember Jill Stein in 2016. Yours Truly is by no means saying Tulsi is the spoiler candidate in 2020. All Yours Truly is pointing out is that this “Tulsi is a Russian plant” narrative has been simmering amongst grassroots Democrats for a while now and it appears to have finally boiled to the surface after last night’s debate. Why is Trump’s favorite TV network Fox News so interested in and even cheering on Tulsi? Is Tulsi the Trump candidate? All these are questions that will only get louder as the Dem Presidential nomination contest progresses and as Trump famously says, “We’ll see what happens.”

Russia Was In A Position To Delete Or Change Voter Data

CBS Face The Nation‘s host Margaret Brennan made a bombshell revelation today when reading from a bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report she said, “Russia likely targeted election infrastructure in all 50 states. The first known breach was in July 2016 in Illinois where Russian cyber actors scanned state election systems. They were in a position to delete or change voter data. The report does say some progress has been made but the threat is imperfectly understood…”

This mirrors the recent troubling revelation made by Rep Jackie Speier (D-CA) who said Russia likely tampered with our voting machines in 2016 in ways we may never know.

The idea that Russia tampered with our voting machines in 2016 is still largely treated by the mainstream media as some wild conspiracy theory yet time and again we get evidence showing that it is anything but a conspiracy–the latest being this bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee report. The question as to what exactly Russia did in 2016 is one House Democrats and the mainstream media should still be digging into even though the Mueller investigation is now over

Bottom line, if we are going to successfully defend ourselves against another foreign attack on our voting infrastructure in 2020, we need to fully understand what Russia did in 2016 so that we know where our vulnerabilities lie. As it currently stands, the stance taken by House Democrats and the mainstream media is that we need to move on now that Mueller probe is over. Yours Truly strongly disagrees and believes that instead of “moving on”, now is the time we need hunker down and dig deeper into the Mueller findings for clues at to what exactly Russia did in 2016 and ways to stop them in 2020. This issue has to be front and center of mainstream media coverage as we head into 2020.
